Cabbage - Red
All types should be sown 1cm (1/2") deep in the seed bed with rows 15cm (6") apart. The time of sowing and transplanting vary according to type, see packets for details. Firm ground, high pH and good humus levels are all important in achieving a good crop. Cabbages suffer from a number of foliar pests. These can be controlled by an array of organic and non-organic sprays. The most important pest is Cabbage Root Fly which can be controlled with Fyba cabbage collars or Enviromesh.
Plant out 30-45cm (1 - 11/2ft) apart in rows 45cm (11/2ft) apart. Sow end of February to early March under cloches or April outdoors for cutting from May through to October.
