Cabbage - Spring
All types should be sown 1cm (1/2") deep in the seed bed with rows 15cm (6") apart. The time of sowing and transplanting vary according to type, see further details later. Firm ground, high pH and good humus levels are all important in achieving a good crop. Cabbages suffer from a number of foliar pests. These can be controlled by an array of organic and non-organic sprays. The most important pest is Cabbage Root Fly which can be controlled with Fyba cabbage collars or Enviromesh.
Sow mid July to August and transplant September to October in 30cm (1ft) rows leaving 15 - 30cm (6" - 1ft) between the plants. Remove every other plant as "spring greens", early in the spring, leaving the remainder to heart up.
