HARDY ANNUALS (HA)
Normally sown in situ from March onwards when soil conditions allow. Usually flowering from June until the frosts kill them. For earlier flowers many species can be sown in September and overwintered in mild areas. Hardy annuals are generally easy to grow, quick to flower and are great for filling in gaps. However large or small your garden they represent great value for money.
 

HALF HARDY ANNUALS (HHA)
Generally sown in the greenhouse with or without heat, from January to early April. Prick out into trays or cells when large enough to handle. Transplant into beds when all risk of frost has gone. They flower from June onwards.  Usually used for summer bedding plants, these only survive one season.
 

HARDY BIENNIALS (HB)
Most are sown in April, May or June for transplanting in late summer - early autumn. They will bloom in May - June the following year.
 

HARDY PERENNIALS (HP)
Sowing times vary between species, but the majority are from April - June. First flowers are produced the following season.
